Matcha FAQ
Where does matcha come from?
All of our matcha comes from Japan. We work directly with farms in Uji, Kagoshima, Shizuoka, and Kyoto. Sustainability and transparency are important to us. Because we know the farmers, the whole supply chain is transparent and fairly build. Together with our partner company Pure Matcha Partners we source the best and freshest matcha.
What is the difference between Ceremonial, Latte and Culinary matcha?
Matcha comes in different “grades.” The highest grade (Ceremonial) comes from the very top of the tea plant. It has the mildest flavor. The second part of the plant is used for the Latte grade (also known as 'premium' grade). This has a slightly stronger flavor and is therefore suitable for mixing with milk. The Culinary grade is made from the lower part of the plant. It has an even stronger flavor and is therefore suitable for baking and cooking.
Is the ASA Matcha Organic?
Yes, all of our matcha is organically grown in Japan. It is packaged and shipped in the Netherlands, all under strict SKAL certification (NL-BIO-01)
How do I store my matcha?
Store your matcha in an airtight container or bag. This can be the bag it comes in, or you can store it in a dark jar with an airtight lid. Make sure it’s protected from air and light. You should also store your matcha in the refrigerator to maximize its shelf life. Matcha can stay fresh for up to 1.5–2 years this way.
